August Monthly Wellness Tip from Your Wellness Connection

“Rest is not the absence of activity but the presence of peace.”

As summer break comes to an end soon, it’s an important time to remind yourself that your spirit, mind, and body need rest between seasons.

This is especially true if your family is preparing to go back to school, returning from several back-to-back vacations this summer, or simply adjusting to the slow decrease of daylight that we’ve been used to these last few months.

Because most people think “rest” means “sleep”, we thought it would be helpful to provide seven additional types of rest that can help your body prepare for a season/lifestyle change:

1. Be still in your backyard or patio to decompress.

2. Take a sensory break by limiting screen time.

3. Take a day/night off (or two) from chores.

4. Build a playlist that helps your spirit fill up and rejuvenate.

5. Go for a walk by yourself to reflect on the summer.

6. Practice an easy breathing exercise once or twice a day.

7. Take an Epsom salt bath to calm your nervous system.

If you are looking for additional ways to grow this month on your wellness journey, consider this Calm and Peaceful Life short 21-day online program.

Have you ever wondered why you seem more anxious or stressed than other people? Do you feel like your body is always in a fight-flight-freeze state of mind about things happening in life?

This 21-day virtual program covers a variety of reasons your nervous system is impacting your mental health, such as how music helps the brain, where sugar and moods collide, why showers make you feel so refreshed, what exactly happens in the brain when we aren’t sleeping well, and so much more. With each of these topics, you’ll be given some background and then guide you how to implement these small changes and embrace more calmness and peace into your life.  Take a closer look and  REGISTER.
